The Northwest Seaport Alliance handled a total of 344,280 twenty-foot equivalent units(TEUs), growing 19.9% compared to June 2020. Full imports increased 28.6%, while full exports decreased 19.2%, reflecting trends up and down the West Coast.

Year-to-date volumes improved 18.9% to 1,860,174 TEUs, with full imports growing 31.1% and full exports declining 11.2%.

Terminal 5 construction progressed with the installation of the final deck panels and last electrical vaults. Four new super post-Panamax cranes are at the terminal and being prepared for installation. Phase one of the two-phase modernization project will be completed in early 2022. When finished, the 185-acre, on-dock rail terminal will handle the largest vessels in the transpacific trade.

Domestic volumes grew 10.8% vs. YTD 2020. Alaska volumes saw a 6.6% increase while Hawaii volumes grew 30.6%.

Other cargo stats:

• Breakbulk YTD June 2021 cargo volumes grew 26.7% for 177,009 metric tons.
• Auto volumes were 91,590 units, up 36.8% over YTD June 2020.
